Rowan baby blanket and a hockey scarf

Hello Knitters.

I love knitting. I love the comfort and warmth you feel when sitting with a blanket and using your needles. The relaxing rhythm and beautiful results.
I finished the Baby Blanket with Lace Pattern by Drops this weekend. The yarn is Rowan Glace in the Baked Red colorway. (Ravelry link here.) My friend does not want to find out the sex so this colorway is perfect for either boy are girl. I hope she loves it as much as I love her! We are so happy for their new arrival, I cannot wait!
My son is a HUGE fan of hockey. He loves his practice, pretend to play every free second he has and watches hockey on TV with his all the time. He has hockey socks for over his shin guards. They are in the colors of his team, blue/green/white. He has been asking for a scarf to match his socks. How can you say no to that!
It is going really fast and the colors match really well with his hockey sock. My first project on needle size 8 in a long time. I am hoping I can finish it in a week and he can wear it for his last month of practice before summer break. Of course, his dad now wants a matching scarf as well.

I am still reading Parched by Z. L. Arkadie. Honestly, it is pretty awful. The plot is boring and very predictable. However, I have not finished my last 2 books so I will gut it out and finish it. Then I think I will try The Hobbit and then The Lord of The Rings.

I'll be joining Ginny and Frontier Dreams this week. Take care.

WIP Wednesday

Thank goodness for knitting.

I found an extremely cute pattern on another blog a few weeks back and my heart skipped a beat.  Caffeine Girl posted her new project Quicksilver. Thankfully, I had most of the yarn necessary in my stash. I decided to try Madeline Tosh Light and Malbrigo yarns together. (Yes, my truck repairs are paid off thank goodness, I was a good girl). At The Knitting Tree, the sales person told me the base yarn is the exact same therefore only the colors vary. I went with the colors white, gray and a blue. (Sorry I left the tags in my truck and I do not know the exact colors!)

I love how the project is coming along. However, I have to be good. My friend is only 5 weeks away from her due date and I need to finish the baby blanket! Hopefully, this Friday you will see a blog post of a finished baby blanket!
My husband and I rarely exchange gifts. We are on a budget like most and just find our time together is more valuable then items. He knows how much I adore Sherlock the tv series and knitting and therefore decided I could not live without this special skein of Into the Whirl sock yarn, 221B colorway. I am so excited to cast on. This yarn is so soft and simply elegant. I am trying to find the perfect sock pattern for skein so I can wear socks and watch Sherlock!! I am thrilled just thinking about it!
I started a new novel this week, Parched. It is a SciFi book about mystical creatures and vampires. I am not sure why but I love vampire love stories. Yes, my reading habits are similar to a 13 year old girl but its fun and I find it so relaxing so please don't judge me too harshly.
I cannot wait to see what is on everyone's needles today! I am linking up with Ginny!

WIP Wednesday

Hello Knitters.

Well, I started and stopped reading two books this week. I tried to read God of Small Things. I found it to be a bit slow moving and boring. I then moved on to The Disappearing Spoon. While I love the idea of reading about the drama happening while periodic elements were being discovered, the book spent too much time on explaining general chemistry. I have enough chemistry from work, I do not need it spilling over into my novels.

I am on the last section of the baby blanket. The pattern is a Drops pattern. Here is the Ravelry link. This pattern started of as a great challenge for me. As I work through the pattern, it is becoming easier. The edging is the hardest part and the last section. Hopefully, it is easier the second time around.
I have also been working on my Zigzagular socks. I love these socks. I love the yarn. Everything about them makes me smile.
My son's birthday is coming up in March. He loves knitted socks and I cannot wait to surprise him with another pair. I started the Campfire socks using size 1 needles to make a child's size sock.
Finally, the book I requested at the library came in, Botanical Knits 2. I wanted to see the pattern for the bare branches pattern. I have never made a sweater in my size. This beautiful pattern caught my eye and I think I want to give it a whirl...

Enjoy your Wednesday knitters.

WIP Wenesday!

Hi Knitters!

I am very excited to read everyone's blog and see what is on your needles!

This week has been insanely busy. Last week my family was sick so now we are trying to scramble to catch up. Work is a bit insane. I am currently writing grants, teaching, taking classes, working on graduate school recruiting for minority students and still doing my normal job of maintaining the computational research in the dept... UGH! Oh well, just a busy time of the year.

My son has a very busy schedule as well. He is now in hockey twice a week and swim lessons once a week. We also registered him for kindergarten. Wow, kindergarten... when did that happen. Truthfully, this super busy time is helpful so I do not dwell on him getting so big so fast.

I have gotten a bit farther with the baby blanket.

I have also been working on my Zigzagular socks.

Finally, this skein of Koigu sock yarn will be Campfire socks by Jacquelynn Vance-Kuss. I will adjust the pattern to fit my son's feet. He wants a pair of socks for his birthday. I love how much he loves socks!

I finished Enders Game last week. I was in shock by the twist and I felt so bad for Ender. It was a great read but I am not sure if I will continue the series. I have now moved on the the Disappearing Spoon. It looks like a super fun and relaxing read.

I am joining Ginny today!
